Fibre Optic Planning and Design Course

Engineer working on fibre optic network components and cable connections during a fibre optic planning and design course, demonstrating fibre infrastructure installation and network design practices.

The practical aspect of our course, which aims to equip you as a qualified fibre network planner and designer, is at its heart. It provides you with the hands-on skills to plan and design fibre-optic network infrastructure, ensuring you are not only prepared but also capable. With a proven record of training thousands of technicians and engineers, we ensure you do it correctly, giving you the confidence and reassurance of our successful track record.

About this course:

Designing and planning external networks can be complex, particularly when creating the infrastructure and planning for future technology upgrades at minimal cost. In today’s modern world, networks evolve according to the plans developed by network architectures, and it is paramount that the design not only meets the requirements of the current network deployment but also those of the future.

When designing a network, we must consider both the costs and safety of the plan, which also includes civil engineering aspects, cabling design, network operation and maintenance, and future upgrades.

Fibre optics is used in many applications, such as:

  • Telecommunication networks

  • Broadband deployments

  • Data centres

  • Energy sectors

  • Offshore wind farms.

Learning Objectives:

✔️ Describe and interpret a topology suitable for a fibre optic network deployment

✔️ Describe and explain the technology to be used within the deployment

✔️ Describe and explain desktop planning, surveying, and on-site planning

✔️ Describe and explain Passive Optical Networks and Point-to-Point networks

✔️ Interpret a plan and prepare a preliminary site survey using assured routes, for both underground and overhead networks

✔️ Identify predesigned network routes, including the placement of network furniture

✔️ Identify network dimensioning to ensure efficient fibre distribution and network coverage.

✔️ Describe the hazards and controls associated with various environmental conditions

✔️ Describe the standards, legislation and regulations which apply when undertaking site surveys.

✔️ Describe and gather sufficient technical and regulatory information to be able to identify the availability and feasibility of proposed routes

✔️ Plan the collection of information on a time scale suitable for achieving demand

✔️ Interpret information, access, and import evidence into an equivalent Generic Network Mapping System.

✔️ Prepare and produce planning documentation in accordance with standards and demand

✔️ Describe and explain network planning decisions when scoping works.

We focus on practical training while empowering learners to understand how fibre transmission works.
