The Openreach PIA S6 Underground Survey accreditation course is designed for operatives and surveyors using the Openreach network, utilising the underground network infrastructure for communication providers (CP) who have written agreements to use Openreach physical infrastructure access (PIA). ✔️ Module one: Develops the knowledge of the Openreach Underground Infrastructure

✔️ Module two: Prepares delegates with the skills and knowledge to undertake a safe PIA underground network infrastructure surveying

✔️ Module three: Demonstrates individual competency required to complete a PIA underground Survey.

This course will enable telecom underground surveyors to carry out surveys correctly, following Openreach criteria, which include:


  • Identifying Openreach chambers correctly

  • Correctly identifying existing assets owned by Openreach and other Communication Providers

  • Correctly identifying chamber types, JUF, JMF, JRC, CW

  • Correctly identifying chamber bores and confirming space for proposed cable routes.

  • Perform calculations when working out the bore space

  • Learn correctly what information is required for reporting, A1024.

  • Understanding items in the Openreach portal maps and identifying assets

It is designed to provide essential knowledge and skills for engineers, contractors and surveyors working in the Openreach infrastructure. Examinations & Qualifications Included:

The delegate must pass written and practical assessments to be awarded the accreditation, which is then valid for three years.
