Fibre Optic Installation and Testing Engineer Level 3
CFNE-L3

At Total Network Solutions (Europe) Ltd, operating under the name Fibre Optics Training, we actively collaborate with employers within the IT & Telecommunications infrastructure industry to tackle the skills shortage now and in the future. For nearly two decades, we have been dedicated to supporting both the telecommunications sector and service leavers.
This Level 3 Fibre Optics Installation and Advanced Testing Engineering course provides an in-depth exploration of fibre optics installation. Over nine days, this course will enhance your expertise and credibility in the field of fibre optics
Our package includes:
Our Level 3 course is designed to give your career a significant boost. We incorporate the City & Guilds 3668 Level 3 units into our program to ensure you can start your new job effectively and qualify for various roles.
You will put yourself at the forefront of technology. The job market can be challenging, but possessing the right vocational skills will give you an edge over the competition. With an industry-recognised qualification from City & Guilds, you’ll also have credentials that are transferable to other countries.
It comprises both theoretical and practical components, covering single-mode and multi-mode fibre. Throughout the course, you will learn the following:
Our package includes:
3668-03 Unit 303 Fibre Optic Cabling
3668-03 Unit 307 Advanced Fibre Testing and Fault Finding
More about this course:
The course is a level 3 industry qualification. The fibre optic splicing fast-track technician course provides installation engineers/technicians with the best training possible to achieve the skills needed to install in various environments. Fibre Optic Broadband has excelled in this, and it’s apparent that technicians and engineers are correctly trained. This is just one example; what about other industries, like data centres? Data centres are evolving into hyperscale data centres, with a focus on fibre optics, particularly in response to the growing demand for technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and quantum computing. Why? Older types of fibre and structured cabling cannot meet the throughput required for these applications.
What is involved in this course
After completing the fibre installation module, you will proceed to the advanced fibre testing module, which lasts four days. During this module, you will learn how to test fibre networks using various testing methods accurately. You will also become familiar with the appropriate procedures for testing according to different specifications.
Insertion loss measurements (ILM Testing tier 1)
Optical time domain reflectometer OTDR Tier 2 testing, unidirectional and bidirectional testing.
End face fibre inspection in line with industry standards
How to set up and test Passive optical networks (GPON, XGPON & XGSPON)
How to set up test equipment correctly, like OTDRs
Understand graphs and interpret them correctly
Understanding SLM & IOLM
Understand the health & safety when working with fibre optics
Specify the test of the 120km link
By the end of the course you will be competent in the following:
✔️ How to correctly install and prepare fibre optic cables
✔️ Learn how to fusion splice fibre correctly
✔️ Learn the different types of fibre optics and their applications of use
✔ ️ Learn correctly how to build fibre optic node enclosures (jointing/splicing enclosures)
✔️ Learn to correctly terminate fibre optics in patch panels and optical distribution frames
✔️ Be able to understand network diagrams and topologies
✔️ Learn how to test fibre optic systems using test equipment and hand over to the client
✔️ Correctly interpret test result data
✔️ Fibre Splicing and Termination
✔️ Install fibre optic distribution cables into cabinets and patch panels
✔️ How to correctly document your test results
✔️ Specify the hardware requirements for a telecom link, including the optics
✔️ Plan a link of 120km using single-mode
Career progression:
After completing this course, you can progress to a further technical course, like the Level 3 External Planning and Design Course
Who is this course suitable for?
✔️ New Entrants
✔️ Experienced Fibre Engineers
✔️ Planners and Designers
✔️ Project Managers
